what is microblading?

By definition, Microblading is the process of implanting color pigment beneath the surface of the skin with a single-use, sterile, needle to create the desired eyebrow appearance. It is semi-permanent and is done in two appointments.

What that means is microblading creates an extremely realistic long-lasting eyebrow. Microblading is done by drawing hairstrokes into the skin with a hand tool that will last about a year to two years.

Important factors that explain what microblading is and how the service is performed.

What it is and what makes it different than a tattoo:

  1. The tool used is not a single needle that is penetrated into the skin, it is a row of extremely small needles held together by a casing or handle to create a blade-like tool

  2. There are many different nicknames for microblading; cosmetic tattoo, permanent makeup, micropigmentation, blade and shade, or even eyebrow restoration

  3. Although Microblading is not like a real tattoo, it is similar to a tattoo because it is pigment implanted into the skin. It is different from a tattoo because the pigment is placed in the top layer of the skin, not the deepest layer of the skin. It is considered a surface layer “tattoo” and will fade away naturally over time, unlike a tattoo that stays in the skin forever. This Is why cosmetic tattoos like microblading are considered semi-permanent, while regular tattoos are permanent

This is a microblade tool.

It is not a blade exactly, but a series of extra fine needles tightly held together to create seemless hairstrokes. The diameter of the blade is only .15mm. This microblade is made by Bowler Esthetics.

The process :

  1. Before the microblading begins you will numb with a local anesthetic to ensure comfort throughout the entire process. I use a product called Zensa. It is an organic 5% lidocaine cream and is the top anesthetic available because of its fine ingredients

  2. After numbing, we map the face with a handful of tools to ensure a perfectly symmetrical brow shape is drawn onto the skin to be used as a stencil. The microbladed brow shape, density, and color are all customized to fit each individual. These factors are chosen by an artist by using their extensive knowledge of the skin, the microblading technique, and artistic skills to create an eyebrow that best suits each person’s face. Before we begin microblading we take a look at the brow shape drawn onto the skin and make sure we are both happy with the stencil.

  3. The microblading begins with the first pass; the process in which the microblading draws the hair strokes into the skin through the entire stencil, creating the outlined structure of the new eyebrow

  4. After the first pass is the pigment soak where a q tip places pigment over the entire brow area to make sure pigment is getting into the new hair stroke and not resting on top of the skin

  5. Using an all-natural green soap the pigment is wiped away and the outline of the new brow is present. We add a secondary numbing product for elongated comfort that contains epinephrine, this product also helps reduce redness and bleeding

  6. The second pass is considered the fill pass where hair strokes are added in between the first hair strokes to fill in the new brow shape

  7. A pigment mask, green soap, and a numbing agent are added again, just like before

  8. After the first and second pass is done on each eyebrow, I like to sit the client upright and take a look at the new brows to make any slight adjustments necessary

  9.  Last but not least we take a few after photos for our records and voila, the first step of two for a new set of perfect eyebrows is finished

  10. In 6 to 10 weeks after the skin has fully healed and regenerated step 2 is performed in the exact same fashion as the first

  11. Now that the first and second microblading sessions are done, the new eyebrows are finished and the results will last 1 to 2 years and naturally fade over time!

The microblading process is drawing individual hairs into the skin to create a fuller eyebrow.

Here is an example of the microblade drawing each hair within the outline of dots. The outline is created first using symmetry, art, and your personal preference.

In my experience, microblading has restored confidence in so many lives with its ability to look so realistic. Clients that have had their eyebrows microbladed all have the exact same reaction; “I wish I had done it sooner!”

It’s an honor to provide microblading, it is truly a life-changing service to highlight and define a face. I have found it makes people feel good about themselves, and to us, that is what beauty is all about.
